The Chiefs started strong, with Varney scoring a try in the fourth minute, followed by Ridl just seven minutes later. Slade converted both tries, giving Exeter an early 14-0 lead. Sale responded with a try from van Rhyn, but the Chiefs quickly answered back with a try from Woodburn, extending their lead to 21-7 by halftime. The second half saw Sale's du Preez score, narrowing the gap to 21-14, but the Chiefs sealed their victory with a late try from Brown-Bampoe.
